The HANSEATIC nature is an expedition cruise ship from Hapag-Lloyd Cruises designed for voyages that bring guests closer to landscapes and wildlife. Her maximum capacity is around 230 passengers (which may be reduced in certain expedition regions), with highly attentive service on board (around 175 crew members), in a refined, deliberately intimate atmosphere centered on exploration. Her sister ships are the HANSEATIC inspiration and the HANSEATIC spirit.

Entering service in 2019, the HANSEATIC nature has a gross tonnage of around 15,650 GT and measures about 455 feet in length and 72 feet in width. Built by VARD (with sites in Romania and Norway according to sources), she was designed for expedition cruising with PC6 ice class and relies on highly structured excursion logistics (notably a fleet of Zodiacs and a deployable aft marina for launches). On the observation side, the ship emphasizes viewpoints (panoramic lounges/observation areas and deck arrangements designed to enjoy natural scenery).
On board, the organization is designed to remain smooth and simple day to day while maintaining a high-end level of service. Dining is spread across three distinct venues: the main Hanseatic restaurant and its destination-inspired à la carte menus, the Lido for relaxed buffets with an open kitchen and outdoor grill, and the Hamptons specialty restaurant, which pays tribute to sophisticated American East Coast cuisine. On cruises longer than 14 days, a fish “pop-up” concept further enriches the offering.
In terms of social spaces, the ship features two main bars: the Observation Lounge, offering a 180° panoramic view ideal for tea time or a quiet cocktail, and the HanseAtrium, a flexible lounge that becomes the ship’s social heart in the evening. An outdoor bar by the pool completes the lineup. This approach favors choice and flexibility (flexible hours, open seating), in keeping with the spirit of an expedition ship where active days alternate with quiet returns in a relaxed “5-star” atmosphere.
The HANSEATIC nature has around 120 outside cabins/suites. The most common categories typically range from 226 to 291 sq. ft. depending on configuration (panoramic, French balcony, balcony), with amenities designed for expedition cruising: “rain shower,” heated bathroom wall (useful for towels and damp clothing), binoculars, coffee machine, and included minibar (at minimum soft drinks). Higher suite categories add true separation between spaces and more exclusive features (larger veranda, more spacious bathroom, etc.), following a “grand hotel” comfort logic at sea, even in an expedition setting.
Between outings, the ship offers spaces for relaxation and fitness: spa, fitness area, and an outdoor pool. Everything is designed for recovery after active days (Zodiac outings, walks, wildlife and landscape observation), with an overall atmosphere that is calm and strongly nature-oriented.
The HANSEATIC nature is designed for expedition itineraries, notably Arctic cruises, with capacity that can be adjusted in certain regions (e.g. polar destinations). The human-scale format (max around 230) supports responsiveness in the field, landings, and observation, while still maintaining a premium level of comfort once back on board.
