To the east of the Santiago Severin Library, the Palacio Palanco catches the eye with its bow-window windows and splendid central dome. Eclectic, neo-Renaissance and neo-Baroque in style, the building houses the prefecture of the Valparaiso Carabinieri. To the west of Plaza Victoria, the Valparaiso Natural History Museum is a must-see place to immerse yourself in the culture of Chile's ancient civilizations. It also features galleries dedicated to art and Chile's flora and fauna.
For entertainment, head for lagune verde, 18 km south of Valparaiso. A fishing village, it boasts beautiful white-sand beaches.
