There are plenty of sites to visit and monuments not to be missed in Morocco, and you'll need to make several trips to see them all. If you don't know where to begin your discovery of Morocco, start with the medina of Fez, a veritable maze where surprises await you at every turn. As you wander through the narrow streets, you'll come across hidden souks where the magic of the Orient is omnipresent. Continue on to Volubilis, witness to the ancient Roman occupation. With its triumphal arch, Roman wine press and numerous mosaics, this ancient city perpetuates memories of the Romans through the ages. From here, take the road to Moulay Idriss, a holy city nestled between two hills that you'll recognize from afar by its whitewashed houses.
In Morocco, art is expressed in many ways. In Marrakech, the street show that takes place day and night in the main square of Djemma el-Fna is a real feast for the eyes. If you're in the square during the day, you'll find acrobats, snake charmers and fortune-tellers bewitching tourists. In the evening, street musicians take over the square to keep you dancing into the night. And if you're feeling a bit peckish, don't worry: there are plenty of street food stalls in Djemaa el-Fna, where you can sample Moroccan specialties. In the medina of Asilah, the walls become life-size paintings. Every year in July, Moroccan and foreign artists gather in this old town to adorn its walls with colorful paintings. All these works are magnificent, but the most beautiful and above all the most imposing are undoubtedly those near the Sidi Mansour belvedere and the El-Khamra tower.
Morocco is also a vast playground for budding adventurers. If you love climbing, take the High Atlas by storm. As you climb, you'll come across peaceful villages like Aroumd, where you can take a break while sipping mint tea. Crossing the Sahara Desert on camelback is another adventure you can only experience in Morocco. When the last glimmers of the setting sun are reflected in the golden-pink sands of Erg Chebbi, the spectacle before your eyes is one of rare beauty, and you'll forget how hard it was to keep your balance on the camel.
But what would a trip to Morocco be without enjoying the sea on Agadir's beaches? For surf enthusiasts, Morocco is a dream destination. On the country's Atlantic coast, the most beautiful waves come ashore on the beaches of Taghazout, challenging holidaymakers eager to tame them.
Morocco opens its doors to holidaymakers all year round, but the best seasons to visit are undoubtedly spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October). You'll enjoy plenty of sunshine and can take full advantage of the tourist sites. If you're coming to Morocco just to enjoy its fine sandy beaches, then summer is perfect. The water will be ideally heated and the sunshine at its best. Inland, however, summer heat can sometimes cut short your nature walks.
