What customers think of
Nicko cruises

What customers love about NICKO CRUISES

  • The "Slow Cruising" concept : It’s the brand’s philosophy, and customers love it. Port stops are often longer than average, allowing you to take your time exploring without rushing. Travelers appreciate not having to rush and being able to truly immerse themselves in the destination.
  • Ships on a human scale : Whether on the Danube or on the high seas, Nicko ships carry fewer passengers than the industry giants. This means no waiting at the buffets or during boarding, and a much more personalized service where the staff recognizes the guests.
  • High-quality and varied cuisine : Reviews highlight the freshness of the dishes. Passengers appreciate the option to choose between a casual buffet or plated service in the main restaurant at no extra charge, often featuring local touches inspired by the regions they’re passing through.
  • Attractive value for money : Nicko Cruises is often cited as offering very competitive rates for the level of service provided (modern ships, full board). Customers feel they are getting their money’s worth, with many inclusions.
  • Cleanliness and maintenance of the ships : German precision is often mentioned positively regarding hygiene. Cabins and common areas are described as spotless and well-maintained, which is a major factor in customer satisfaction.

Points to be aware of

  • The predominant German-speaking atmosphere : Although the company is expanding internationally, the main language on board remains German. On certain departures that are not specifically “international,” announcements and entertainment may be predominantly in this language, which requires a bit of adjustment for French speakers.
  • Entertainment focused on tranquility : Evening entertainment is low-key (piano bar, lectures, light live music). Travelers accustomed to "Broadway"-style shows or lively nightclubs should be aware that the atmosphere here is more conducive to reading and conversation than to late-night partying.
  • Variability of the river fleet : The company operates numerous ships on the rivers. Reviews note that the standard and size of the cabins can vary between the newest (very modern) ships and the more classic vessels. It is advisable to carefully review the details of the ship you choose.

In Summary

In conclusion, Nicko Cruises is ideal for couples and mature travelers seeking a relaxing and cultural vacation. It appeals to those who prioritize substance (the destination) over style (the spectacle). If you enjoy traveling in an organized, calm, and comfortable setting with efficient service, this is an excellent choice.

Who is this company for
Nicko cruises ?

Fans of peaceful slow travel

This is the main target audience. Nicko Cruises caters to travelers who want to spend time ashore. With often longer port stops and relaxed schedules, it appeals to those who wish to immerse themselves in the local culture, stroll through cities, and enjoy the scenery without constantly checking their watches.

Mature couples and sophisticated seniors

The atmosphere on board is calm and refined, without being stuffy. The company primarily attracts couples aged 50 and older who are looking for rest, fine dining, and attentive service. It’s an ideal setting for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of resort hotels and noisy entertainment.

Do you avoid large cruise ships?

Nicko Cruises caters to those who dislike crowds. Whether on its riverboats or its ocean-going vessel, passenger numbers remain limited (often fewer than 1,000 for ocean cruises, fewer than 200 for river cruises). It is perfectly suited for guests who want to avoid lines at the buffet or during boarding and who appreciate personalized service.

Culture and history enthusiasts

The itineraries are often rich in cultural experiences (the Danube, the Rhine, as well as around-the-world cruises). The company caters to curious travelers who choose their trip based on the cities visited and the onboard lectures offered, rather than for water slides or casinos.

Who is NICKO CRUISES for?

Tips and advice
Nicko cruises

Here is a compilation of the most popular tips from our customers, 100% reliable, to enhance your onboard experience

  • Check for the "International Departures" label : Since Nicko Cruises is a German company, the primary language is German. The key tip for French or English speakers is to choose dates marked as "International." On these specific departures, a dedicated cruise director who speaks English (and often French) is present, and all menus, announcements, and excursions are translated, ensuring total comfort.
  • Go for the "Smart Casual" Look : The atmosphere is less formal than on traditional luxury cruise lines. The dress code tip is to leave the tuxedo and ball gown at home. A neat but comfortable outfit is appropriate for dinner (shirt, pants, light dress), allowing you to travel with lighter luggage while feeling perfectly at ease in the restaurant.
  • Make the most of overnight stops : True to its "Slow Cruising" philosophy, Nicko often offers late departures or nights at the dock. The advice is not to return to the ship immediately after dinner. Take advantage of these extended hours to explore the city "by night," take a post-dinner stroll along the illuminated docks, or attend a local concert—a freedom rarely found on other cruise lines.
