Havila
Havila offers a setting that perfectly meets the expectations of travelers seeking an immersive and respectful way to experience Norway’s grand landscapes. On board, the experience unfolds in a relaxing environment, with the « Havila Food Stories » dining concept eliminating buffets to reduce waste while still delivering refined local cuisine. The ships are designed for silence and contemplation: thanks to their batteries, they can sail for up to four hours with no noise and no emissions, allowing for total immersion in the natural soundscape of the UNESCO-listed fjords.
While Havila fulfills a public service mission for local communities, the company also welcomes international guests who want to experience what is often called the world’s most beautiful voyage in its most modern and green version.
On board Havila’s ships, every crossing is designed as an immersion in the Norwegian art of living (« Kos »). The ships, all new and identical, combine natural materials (wood, stone, wool), large picture windows, and lighting effects inspired by the Northern Lights to create a distinctly Scandinavian atmosphere. You will find panoramic lounges where you can take time to read while facing the sea, outdoor spaces where you can breathe in the pure Arctic air, and an overall ambiance that is calm and welcoming. The onboard program emphasizes cultural discovery – lectures on wildlife and local history, immersive excursions...
Designed to maximize outside views, Havila’s ships span several decks and feature some of the most spacious cabins on the coastal route, blending functionality with elegance. The public areas are generous in size and oriented toward the sea: lounges with glass ceilings for watching the stars or the Northern Lights, wide promenade decks, a shop featuring local products, and relaxation facilities. The crew, Norwegian and English-speaking, looks after guests throughout their stay to make the experience smooth and welcoming. For those seeking an even more exclusive experience, the Suites Phare and Junior Suites offer luxurious living spaces, private balconies, and premium perks, adding an extra layer of sophistication to the overall Havila experience.
For Havila Voyages, the pleasure of cruising goes hand in hand with genuine attention to environmental impact. Operating under contract with the Norwegian government, the company has invested in the most advanced technology available: a hybrid propulsion system combining Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) with one of the largest battery packs ever installed on a passenger ship. The goal is to drastically reduce CO2 emissions and fine particle pollution, helping preserve the pristine air of the fjords. On board, energy management is optimized (heat recovery, hydrodynamic hull), and the zero single-use plastic policy is strict. The ambition is to preserve the beauty of the Norwegian coast for future generations while offering you superior cruising comfort.
On board Havila Voyages, dining is a cultural journey in itself. The « Havila Food Stories » concept divides the voyage into four culinary chapters based on the region being sailed through (the Fjords, the Polar region, the Arctic...), showcasing fresh ingredients sourced locally. The ship offers several dining options: the main restaurant Havrand for breakfast, lunch, and dinner served at the table; Hildring for an upscale gastronomic experience (Fine Dining); as well as Havly Café for pastries and comforting dishes throughout the day. In the lounges, the meal continues over hot drinks or Nordic cocktails while you take in the passing scenery.
The cabins and suites on board Havila Voyages offer a high standard of hotel-style comfort. Each one is a cocoon of clean Nordic design, far more spacious than the usual average on this route. Large windows (even in some standard categories) mean you will not miss any of the natural spectacle outside. The suites, often located at the front or rear of the ships, feature spectacular private balconies and thoughtful services (exclusive breakfast, priority boarding), ensuring a highly exclusive experience in direct contact with the elements.
Wellness with Havila begins with a connection to nature. The ships feature two heated outdoor jacuzzis on the promenade deck, allowing you to soak under falling snow or beneath the midnight sun, as well as a sauna with a large picture window facing the ocean. A modern fitness room lets you work out with sea views. Families and curious travelers can also enjoy an interactive information point and regular lectures led by the expedition team, offering insight into the Northern Lights, Sami culture, and the geology of the fjords. In the evening, nature takes center stage, best enjoyed from the comfortable reclining chairs in the Havblikk lounge.
A truly iconic itinerary along coastal Norway, this voyage begins in Bergen, the former Hanseatic city, before following the Norwegian coastline for thousands of miles. The ship moves from fjord to fjord, crosses the Arctic Circle, and reaches Kirkenes at the edge of the Far North. The itinerary passes through spectacular scenery such as Geirangerfjord (in summer) or Hjørundfjord (in fall), crosses the Arctic Circle, sails through the Lofoten Islands with their sharp peaks and fishermen’s cabins (Rorbuer), reaches Tromsø, the capital of the Arctic, and finally North Cape. It is the ideal route for taking in the spectacle of the Northern Lights in winter.
The return journey offers a different perspective. The port calls on these cruises departing from Kirkenes often take place during the day where they happened at night on the northbound voyage. It is a chance to discover the landscapes of Vesterålen, the magnificent Helgeland coast and its legendary mountains (such as the Seven Sisters), as well as the city of Trondheim and its Nidaros Cathedral. This route is known for being even more contemplative and allows you to see sides of the coast that are not accessible on the outbound journey.
Havila offers the full round-trip itinerary in 12 days, an iconic voyage that provides deep immersion in the culture and landscapes of the Norwegian coast, often described as the « world’s most beautiful voyage ». The itinerary can also be experienced in segments, thanks to port-to-port connections — for example between Tromsø and the Lofoten Islands — that fit naturally into a land-based trip through Norway.
